The board of directors of Lister Hospital in Accra has been meeting to deliberate on accusations of negligence leveled against the hospital by a couple which lost a baby there.
The couple, Elizabeth and Thomas Vaah, say their healthy baby boy died during birth as a result of poor services at the hospital.
According to Elizabeth, health professionals who attended to her when she went into labour on March 8 simply did not know what they were doing.
She cites an instance where a general practitioner administered a drug to reduce her contractions only for a specialist to administer another drug to induce labour eleven or so hours later.
“I don’t think they knew what they were doing because we have spoken to a few other senior gynecologists since this happened and the impression we get is that they should have let the normal process continue,” Mrs Vaah said, rather than giving her medication to ‘force’ her baby out of her womb.
She told Joy News, the irregularities in the delivery process and lack of care by the specialist doctor and his staff shows they are responsible for the death of their baby.
Attempts to get the hospital for a response on the issue have not yielded any results.
This is despite an earlier assurance by the specialist Dr Haidze that he would grant Joy FM an interview on the matter upon receipt of the results of the pathology test.
However, Joy News sources say the result of the pathology test conducted by a specialist at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital have already been released to him.
Lawyer for the couple, Edward Amuzu tells Joy News they are yet to receive a copy of the results which will determine their next line of action.
The hospital is expected to release a public statement on the issue after its board meeting.
