The Nkoranza Magistrates’ court, presided over by Justice Emmanuel Kwame Boadu has imposed a fine of 500,000 cedis each on four livestock keepers at Bomiri for allowing their pigs to roam the streets, causing nuisance to the general public.
The convicts Kofi Baffoe, Kwabena Sarfo, Yaa Serwa and Kofi Munufie in default would serve a prison sentence of four months.
Daniel Agyarko, Nkoranza district environmental officer said that the court had ordered a bench warrant for the arrest of two other persons on similar charges as they refused to appear before the court after having received summons.
They were Agya Attah a pig farmer from Nkwabeng whose animals were always seen astray and Adjei Baffo from Busunya, who was also charged for not seeing to the removal of excreta in his house.
Mr. Agyarko said Justice Boadu expressed concern about the negative attitudes and practices of some livestock owners whose animals destroy people properties.
Mr. Agyarko said officials from his outfit were to embark on a vigorous inspection in the communities to ensure that stray animals were impounded for their owners to face the full rigours of the law.
He pleaded with assembly and unit committee members to offer the necessary support to the officials to enable them to promote environmental sanitation in the communities.
