The Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the 15th Africa Armwrestling Championship has intensified preparations for the annual event, conducting a comprehensive inspection of the Borteyman Sports Complex.
The inspection team was led by Charles Osei Asibey, President of the Armwrestling Federation of Africa (AFA), together with Dr Kofi Addo-Agyekum, Vice President of Ghanthe a Armwrestling Federation, Edwin Amamkwah, LOC Member, Gideon Hammond, rep from the National Sports Authority, Kenneth Odeng Adade, and Madam Jessica Kwarteng, rep from the Ministry of Sports and Recreation.
They were also accompanied by Mr Francis Ofori, an Administrator and Ms Abigail Fremah, the 2025 Africa's best referee in Armwrestling.
The visit formed a critical part of the committee’s deliberations on whether to officially select the Borteyman Sports Complex as the host venue for the prestigious championship.
Beyond a routine inspection, the exercise allowed members to assess the facility’s technical readiness, seating capacity, athlete warm-up zones, and overall spectator experience.
Mr Charles Osei Asibey, President of the Africa Armwrestling Federation (AFA), in an interview with the GNA Sports, said the visit was to assess the facility ahead of Africa’s fiercest armwrestling spectacle.
He explained that the committee conducted a comprehensive assessment of the competition arena and warm-up areas to ensure a seamless championship experience
He acknowledged that securing adequate accommodation remains the committee’s biggest challenge, one they intend to thoroughly evaluate in their next meetings.
Mr Asibey added that the team had so far been impressed by the inspection of the complex and would carefully factor their findings into future plans.
The 2026 Africa Armwrestling Championship is set to ignite the continent from April 29 to May 3.
