The Minister for Local Government, Decentralisation and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, has conducted an official field inspection of development projects in the Ahafo Region, specifically monitoring those funded by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and the German Development Bank (KfW).
The visit was designed to evaluate implementation progress, ensure value for money, and reinforce transparency within the local governance framework.
Central to the mission was promoting compliance with the District Performance Assessment Tool (DPAT), a mechanism used to track assembly performance and service delivery.

Accompanied by the Ahafo Regional Minister, Charity Gardiner, and representatives from SECO and KfW, the Minister began the tour at Kensere, where they inspected a newly constructed Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound.
The facility serves as a vital primary healthcare hub, providing rural residents with easier access to maternal care, immunizations, and basic curative services while offering on-site residential accommodation for nursing staff.
The delegation also visited Kenyasi No.3 D/A Basic School to inspect a modern, furnished classroom block equipped with Information Communication and Technology (ICT) facilities.

This project aligns with the government’s push to bridge the digital divide and enhance the quality of teaching and learning in rural districts.
Speaking during the tour, Ahmed Ibrahim disclosed that the government has released a total of GH¢980,732,648 over the past eight years to finance priority local infrastructure.
Out of this, GH¢42,935,328 was specifically allocated to Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) for capacity building and essential logistics.
“These investments have facilitated the delivery of over 10,000 basic infrastructure projects nationwide,” the Minister stated. “This includes schools, health facilities, water systems, sanitation projects, and police stations, all aimed at improving the daily lives of our citizens.”

He emphasized that accountability is the cornerstone of public trust, noting that prudent financial management is essential to sustaining these developmental gains.
Collaborative Success
Ahafo Regional Minister, Charity Gardiner, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to deepening decentralization.
She expressed gratitude to the development partners for selecting the Ahafo Region as a beneficiary and highlighted how the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) continues to support the construction of markets, lorry parks, and schools.
Janine walz, the Deputy Head of mission, embassy of Switzerland in Ghana, on behalf of Representatives from SECO and KfW commended the Government of Ghana for its robust partnership.
He noted that the investments have significantly strengthened local governance and improved service delivery across the region, pledging continued support for long-term sustainable interventions.
