Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has decided not to appeal his 10-game ban for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic.
The Uruguay international was handed the suspension on Wednesday for a blatant bite on the Serbian's arm during Sunday's 2-2 draw with the Blues at Anfield, with manager Brendan Rodgers suggesting that the punishment was excessive.
But the Football Association has confirmed that the 26-year-old will not be appealing the decision and will sit out all 10 matches, the first of which will be Saturday's clash with Newcastle.
An FA statement read: "Liverpool forward Luis Suarez has not appealed the suspension issued to him by an Independent Regulatory Commission this week.
"A three-person Independent Regulatory Commission upheld the FA's claim that a suspension of three matches was clearly insufficient and the player will now serve a further seven first-team matches in addition to the standard three.
"The suspension begins with immediate effect and applies to Liverpool's next 10 domestic first-team fixtures.
"The FA intends to publicise the Independent Regulatory Commission's written reasons in due course."
