State prosecutors have gathered 53 pieces of incriminating evidence, including video, pictures against 14 persons accused of murdering Major Maxwell Adam Mahama.

After perusing the evidence, Magistrate Ebenezer Kweku Ansah who presided over the case at an Accra District Court has committed the 14 suspects to trial at the High Court.

The Bill of indictment reveals ample evidence including pellets, empty cartridges, pictures from the crime scene, two guns partly burnt shirt, a cell phone belonging to Major Maxwell Mahama, cement blocks, stick, metal bar, stones among others against the 14 persons.

Chief State Attorney, Evelyn Keelson, said 13 of the 14 individuals have been identified in a video recording which forms part of the 53 pieces of evidence presented to the court.

JoyNews’ Joseph Ackah Blay who was in court Thursday, reported all 14 were offered an opportunity to comment on all that had transpired in court but they all turned down the offer.

The trial at the High Court will commence February 15, 2018.

The accused persons are William Baah, the Assemblyman of Denkyira Obuasi, Bernard Asamoah alias Daddy, Kofi Nyarko aka Abortion, Akwasi Baah, Kwame Tuffour, Joseph Appiah Kubi, Micheal Anim and Bismarck Donkor.

Others are John Bosie, Akwasi Baah, Charles Kwaning, Emmanuel Badu, Bismarck Abanga and Kwadwo Anima

Counsel for the accused, George Bernard Shaw in explaining why the accused declined to comment when offered the opportunity, said per the instructions he has received, they had nothing to do with the crime.

“It is their right to comment or not on the prosecutions’ evidence...we have made known to the court that they do not agree with some of the things that the prosecutions are alleging,” Mr. Shaw added.

In a video shot of the incident and circulated on social media, the officer was seen surrendering his weapon before the mob carried out their dastardly act. The mob later claimed they mistook him for an armed robber because he carried a weapon.

The fallen officer, whom many have described as decent and gentle, died on Monday, May 29, after he was beaten, stoned and burnt by residents of Denkyira-Obuasi in the Central Region.

Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama was posthumously promoted to the rank of Major on June 5, by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Parliament in November 2017, approved a bill that will make the spouse and children of Major Maxwell Mahama the state’s responsibility. The bill was in fulfillment of the President's promise to the family of Major Mahama.
