Fire is said to have gutted shops at the Makola number two market in Accra later Thursday evening.
Francis Owen an eye witness who confirmed the incident to Joy News said the fire started around 6:30 pm.
Two shops have been razed down with the fire spreading, he said.
The fire service is yet to arrive on the scene.
Joy News' reporter Paa Kwesi Asare who rushed to the scene of the fire said the situation is getting worse.
According to him, only one fire tender has arrived but cannot put out the inferno.
Market women and shop owners are wailing as they count their losses to the blazing fire.
One of the women claimed to have lost GHS5,000 which was in the shop before it was razed down.
It is not clear what might have caused the fire.
The MP for the area has called for police reinforcement and fire tenders to restore order and to mitigate the losses.
