A young woman has died after she was allegedly poisoned by a man who had an interest in her following a dispute over GH¢100 at Gomoa Buduburam in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.
The deceased has been identified as 23-year-old Theresa Darkoah.
Her alleged boyfriend, Kofi Emma, popularly known as Blackee, is said to have poisoned her after she refused to refund money he had earlier given to her.
A close friend of the deceased, who spoke to the media, shared details of the events leading to Theresa’s death.
She said she had known Theresa, also called Afia, for a long time, and they worked together. According to her, the suspect had earlier expressed interest in Theresa, but she made it clear that she did not feel the same way.
The situation reportedly escalated when the suspect asked to visit her. Theresa allegedly told him that her standing fan was damaged and that she could not host him because of the heat. She then asked him to send GH¢100 to repair the fan before he could visit.
She confirmed that the suspect gave Theresa GH¢100 to fix her fan and later demanded a refund after she ignored his calls. The friend said the man threatened to kill Theresa if the money was not returned.
She added that she tried to calm him down and assured him the money would be refunded. However, he later called again, still demanding the money and refusing to listen.
Not long after, Theresa called her friend, complaining of heart pains and feeling unwell. She was rushed to the hospital on a motorcycle but died shortly after arrival.
The friend further revealed that the suspect had earlier said that if he did not come himself, he would send someone.
Later, it emerged that a person had delivered medicine to Theresa. Hospital staff later confirmed that she had taken a poisonous substance.
The suspect is currently on the run, and police have launched a manhunt to arrest him.
