The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has announced that Matilda Asante-Asiedu has been officially sworn in as the institution’s Second Deputy Governor.
The ceremony took place on Thursday, May 2, 2025, and was officiated by President John Dramani Mahama at the Jubilee House.
Mrs. Asante-Asiedu’s appointment is in line with Section 17 of the Bank of Ghana Act, 2002 (Act 612), as amended by Section 11 of the Bank of Ghana (Amendment) Act, 2016 (Act 918).
With a career spanning leadership roles in Ghana’s banking sector, Mrs. Asante-Asiedu brings to the central bank deep experience and expertise.
Prior to her appointment, she served as Group Head of Retail Banking at Access Bank Ghana PLC, where she was instrumental in driving customer-centred strategies and inclusive finance.
She is a Chartered Executive Banker, certified by the Chartered Institute of Bankers, Ghana (2024).
Her academic credentials include an MBA in Marketing from GIMPA Business School (2021), an MA in Journalism Studies from Cardiff University (2005), and journalism diplomas from the Ghana Institute of Journalism and Berlin (2000).
Her international exposure includes executive training at some of the world’s top business schools, including the Saïd Business School at Oxford University (2023), Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania (2015), and Marquette University’s Les Aspin Centre in Washington D.C. (2003).
The Bank of Ghana expressed confidence that her appointment will strengthen the leadership at the apex bank and contribute significantly to its ongoing mission of monetary stability, financial sector growth, and economic resilience.
Mrs. Asante-Asiedu now joins the BoG’s top leadership team at a critical time, as the institution continues to navigate complex economic conditions and drive regulatory innovation.
