The Municipal Chief Executive of West Akim, Kwabena Sintim Aboagye, in the Eastern Region has been accused of voting twice in yesterday’s special voting.
The NDC Member of Parliament for Upper West Akim, Samuel Sallas Mensah, who raised the allegations, said the MCE voted at Asamankese and Adaeso respectively.
Mr Sallas-Mensah told Citi FM on Wednesday that he was informed by the party’s polling agents at the centres about the presence of the MCE and it was after cross-checking his mission at those places that he realised that the MCE voted twice.
He also questioned why the MCE was allowed to vote at a place where his name was not on the list of people expected to vote.
He described the MCE’s action as “a slap on the face of democracy”.
The MCE, Mr Aboagye, has however denied the allegations and asked Ghanaians to treat it with contempt.
“There is no truth in what he is saying,” he said.
He said the allegations were part of the NDC’s “negative propaganda”.
When the Asamankese District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) K.G. Adu was contacted, he noted that his outfit has commissioned detectives to investigate the allegations but they did “not see anything concrete to indicate that he did cast the vote twice”.
Meanwhile investigations are still underway.
