A middle-aged woman believed to have been trapped in a flooded drain was found dead Friday at Dome, Accra.
The woman who is yet to be identified, becomes the first reported fatality following Thursday’s downpour in the Greater Accra, Volta and Central regions.
Accra is the hardest hit as various suburbs including Kaneshie, Mallam, Ashaley Botwe, Teshie and Nungua were flooded.
Torrential rains poured in for nearly 24 hours to signal a surge in the tempo of Ghana's rainy season. The rains are expected to last till August.
An eyewitness' account said the body was found close to the residence of the former chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Peter Mac Manu and the National Democratic Congress constituency office. He said the body was there for at least two hours before the Police came in.
