Midland Savings and Loans Ltd, in its attempt to stop pilfering and other negative practices associated with mobile banking, is deploying over 300 ATMs and 5000 Point of Sales (PoS) devices to be positioned at vantage points across the country.
According to Mr Michael Adjovu, Managing Director of the company, the ATMs and PoS would go a long way to also instill confidence in the industry which is usually driven by convenience, as well as to reduce the negative tendencies in the financial sector.
He said they are working in tandem with the Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems Limited (GhIPSS), and expected that the system would be rolled out by the end of this year.
Mr Adjovu announced this on Tuesday at the Mobile Banking Award organised by the company for its mobile banking executives who excelled in the second quarter of the year. The 10 awardees received a certificate of recognition and cash prize.
The Managing Director observed that if mobile banking executives are being punished for indulging in “bad behaviours and negative practices”, there was also the need to reward those with good work ethics. It was based on this that the award scheme was instituted, he explained.
He also noted that former President Atta Mills championed the success and wellbeing of the youth, and has therefore called on all, especially managers and employers, to ensure that the vision lives on.
Youth must be taught the practical way of living by exemplifying good work ethics and rewarding people who go along that path to know that hard work pays, Mr Adjovu remarked.
President of Musician Union of Ghana, Bice Osei Kuffuor, popularly known as Obuor, who presented the award to the recipients stated that rewarding ones work is key, explaining that Christians serve and worship God because of a bigger reward they expect in Heaven.
He commended Midland Savings and Loans Ltd for establishing the scheme, maintaining that anything that gives reward should be applauded.
The purpose of the award is to recognize mobile banking executives’ contributions to the organization through their weekly performances, and to motivate and encourage them to continue to work harder, while upholding the core values of organization, which include integrity, respect, loyalty, and trusting in God.
Midland is a savings and loans company that mobilizes savings from both tradition and non-traditional sectors of the Ghanaian economy. It also grants loans to small medium scale enterprises(SMEs) .
The company hopes to open branches in all the ten (10) regions as it target 25% of the market share in the next five years.
