A major point of controversy in the book “Working with Rawlings” is the use of young politicians to respond to NDC founder, Jerry John Rawlings whenever he verbally attacked former President John Evans Atta Mills.
These are the politicians Mr. Rawlings named “babies with sharp teeth”.
Former Local Government Minister Prof. Ahwoi who authored the book revealed this strategy was adopted after some senior members of the NDC succeeded in convincing Prof. Mills to rescind his decision to resign.
Prof. Mills, he explained, decided to leave office after Mr. Rawlings had launched some scathing attacks on his leadership style.
Former Minister of Communication Dr. Edward Omane Boamah who was mentioned in the book as a suspected 'baby with sharp teeth', former Deputy Minister of Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, former Deputy Education Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa have all issued statements denying being recruited to carry out such a task.
But Prof. Ahwoi in the book, discloses what close confidant of Prof. Mills and former Director of Communication at the Presidency, Koku Anyidoho said the former made of the situation.
“Koku Anyidoho gives his own version of President Mills’ frustrations over this matter as follows: “Being the ever-forgiving and non-confrontational person President Mills was, he never called any of his aides and asked us to go on a headlong collision with the founder.”
He further quotes Koku Anyidoho as saying Prof. Mills actually advised against that.
“On the contrary, he once told me never to be deceived by anybody to attack Rawlings, because once I do that it will be the end of my political career”.
Meanwhile, JoyNews is reliably informed that Prof. Ahwoi has authored another book with Koku Anyidoho titled “In the Service of Ghana - A Biography of Professor John Evans Atta Mills” which will hit the shelves soon.
