Mrs Ama Benyiwa Doe, the Central Regional Minister, has condemned the alleged stealing of four iron ball rollers belonging to Bridge Maintenance Unit (BMU) of the Ghana High Authority (GHA) being used for the construction of steel bridge over River Akora.
She said this after Mr John K. Mensah, Project Supervisor of GHA, had informed her of the theft when the Mrs Benyiwa Doe inspected the construction of the bridge at Agona Swedru.
Mr Mensah said the stealing of the rollers had affected the assembling of the metal works.
He told the Minister that the theft had been reported to the Swedru Police who had given them assurance that police night patrol duties would be extended to the project site to ensure safety of the materials.
On June 20, the two bridges over River Akora were destroyed following a heavy downpour.
Mrs Benyiwa Doe appealed to the citizens of Agona Swedru to assist and cooperate with the contractors working on the bridges to ensure their early completion.
The Minister commended the workers engaged on the construction of bridges for their hard work and assured them that the Police would give them the maximum security to prevent stealing of materials and equipment.
