The Ministry of Health has rescheduled its final decision on the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) missing baby scandal to Tuesday March 25, 2014.
The ministry had announced it would formally pronounce on Friday measures taken by the ministry in respect of five stillbirths said to have gone missing at the hospital.
However the ministry has issued a statement apologising that it is unable to announce its final decision due to failure by the Nursing and Midwifery Council to submit its report on time to the Ministry.
The following is the full statement
The Ministry of Health wishes to apologize for its inability to communicate its decision and findings as promised earlier this week on the alleged missing baby saga that occurred some few weeks ago at the OKomfoAnokey Teaching Hospital. This is due to the inability of the Nursing and Midwifery Council to submit its report on time to the Ministry.
The Nursing and Midwifery Council has informed the Ministry about the cause for the delay and has promised to do so not later than Monday March 24th March, 2014. We will like to assure the general public that, our decision would be announced by Tuesday, 25th March, 2014 at 3:00pm in the Ministry’s Conference upon receipt of the council’s report.
The Hon. Minister gave the Nursing and Midwifery Council, Medical and Dental Council and Management of the OkomfoAnokye Teaching Hospital an ultimatum to help in finding justice to this unfortunate issue.
However, the management of the OKomfoAnokye Teaching Hospital and the Medical and Dental Council have already submitted their reports.
The Ministry of Health will continue to seek for the welfare of every Ghanaian across the country for the delivery of quality healthcare and therefore pleads with all and sundry to bear with us.
