The Minority Caucus in Parliament has demanded an urgent appearance by the Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, to address the alarming surge in suspected ritual killings and violent crimes across the country.
Raising the matter on the floor of Parliament on Friday, 25 July, Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh described the recent developments as deeply troubling, warning that public safety was at serious risk.
He called for an immediate, closed-door engagement with the Minister under Order 60 of Parliament’s Standing Orders.
“We cannot allow this matter to die a natural death. We must summon the Interior Minister, who also serves as National Security Minister, to appear before us — perhaps in a closed sitting — to update the House on measures being taken. This is a sensitive national security issue, and it deserves urgent attention,” Annoh-Dompreh stated.
His call follows a string of violent incidents in recent days, including a fatal shooting on the campus of Nalerigu Senior High School, which claimed the lives of two students.
While local suspicions point to possible links with the protracted Bawku conflict, security agencies have yet to confirm any connection.
A similar attack occurred at Bawku SHS earlier, where another student was reportedly killed in a targeted shooting.
The Minority insists the government must act decisively to halt the growing insecurity and restore confidence in law enforcement.
