Minority Leader Osei-Kyei Mensah-Bonsu has named seven people as suspects behind Tuesday’s violence at the Konkomba Market in Accra.
A turf war on Tuesday ended in a bloodbath in which four people were butchered to death.
But Mr Mensah-Bonsu said the culprits are within the vicinity and that the police must immediately arrest and prosecute them.
The Minority Leader, who was addressing a press conference in Accra, said one Mohammed Ayatu, who allegedly butchered a man to death in an earlier clash, was the same persons who led the latest killings.
The MP also mentioned names such as Sule, Fahana, Awal, Sule Nabia, Abdullah Rasta and Abdullah Sey, who he said are members of the gang which murdered the four persons.
“These are the people that are parading the streets with impunity. We are providing the leads to the Minister of the Interior; let them effect the arrest of the people immediately if they have the securities of the good people of this country at heart,” he said.
The Minority Leader also accused the Interior Minister of inaction in respect of the clashes; a situation he said “is not in anyway a deterrent to the culprits who are determined to flout the laws of the country with absolute impunity.”
“This is a clear demonstration of the minister’s indifference to due process, the rule of law and good governance,” Mr Mensah-Bonsu said.
He bemoaned the situation where a complainant, Prince Kamal Fuseini, “is rather being threatened with arrest,” after reporting an incident to the police.
“The Regional Police Commander has told him that he should never come to the police station again and that this is not a matter for the police to investigate, it is a matter for the NADMO,” he charged.
