Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah has on behalf of President John Mahama, presented to the Council of State petitions received in respect of the incarceration of three persons for contempt of court.
The petitions were received from the general public and lawyers of the Montie Presenter, Salifu Maase, and his two guests, Ako Gunn and Alistair Nelson who have been jailed for four months by the Supreme Court.
The panelists encouraged by Mr Maase threatened to murder justices of the Supreme Court if their ruling in an electoral roll case brought against the Electoral Commission (EC) by a former National Youth Organiser of the People’s National Convention (PNC) and Evans Nimako does not favour the EC.
Lawyers for the convicted presenter and two panelists of an Accra-based Montie FM hinted after the trio were sentenced that they will be petitioning the President to pardon their clients.
They collected one million signatures to petition the President.

Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe, who is one of the lawyers, told Joy News that their aim is not for the President to revert the sentences but to consider the three men regarding the custodial sentence.
A Deputy Education Minister in charge of tertiary, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Head of the Presidential Delivery Unit, Valerie Sawyerr, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, Deputy Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Benjamin Dagadu and others are some of the prominent Ministers of state who have joined to sign a petition book, opened on the premises of pro-government station Radio Gold, ostensibly to pile pressure on President, to free the Montie FM trio.
Presenting the petitions to the Chairperson of the Council, Madam Cecilia Johnson, Mr. Debrah said the President is looking forward to the advice of the Council.
The Chairperson announced that the petitions will be submitted to the Legal Committee of the Council for initial review before the Council as a whole meet to consider the issues.
