An Expert in International Conflict Management at the University of Cape Coast, Dr. Kingsley Adjei has called on government to as a matter of urgency get a village to house all the 275 members of parliament to ensure their safety.
“We need to get a place where all members of parliament will live together serve the country like the military and police barracks with heavy security presence to protect them,” he said.
According to him, the village will serve as a shelter for the MPs during their four years in office to facilitate efforts to ensure their protection.
Dr. Adjei, who is also a Senior Political Science Lecturer at University of Cape Coast was speaking Wednesday on Adom FM’s “Burning Issues” Programme hosted by Captain Smart.
Dr. Adjei says MPs must also have good relationship with their neighbors in the interest of their safety, adding that Members of Parliament must get police protection in the interim since their village has not been put up.
“Once the Executive, the Judiciary has police protection then the Legislature who serves as the third arm of government also deserves same police protection” he stressed.
His suggestions follow the gruesome murder of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North Constituency, Joseph Boakye Danquah Adu.
The MP was stabbed to death on Tuesday.
He suffered multiple wounds in the early hours of Tuesday when unknown assailants attacked him at his residence at Shiashie near East Legon in Accra.
The late MP was the grandson of the late J.B Danquah, a Ghanaian statesman.
Currently, the Police Administration is offering GH₵10,000 to anyone with information leading to the arrest of Tuesday’s killers of the MP for Abuakwa North, J. B. Danquah Adu.
A statement announcing the bounty also asked operators of medical facilities to be on the lookout for suspicious character(s) with fresh knife wounds, who may seek medical attention at their facilities.
A statement released and signed by the Police Director of Public Affairs Superintendent Cephas Arthur said a crack team of investigators has been constituted to investigate the murder.
