Telecommunications outfit, MTN, on Monday donated a cheque for 38.000 Ghana Cedis to the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) towards the organisation of this year’s edition of its annual awards.
The 37th edition of the SWAG Awards night will be held on Saturday, June 9 at the Banquet Hall, State House, Accra.
The cash donation gives MTN the right of headline sponsors for the event that will see distinguished sports personalities being rewarded for their exploits in 2011.
Mrs Cynthia Lumor, Corporate Services Executive of MTN said the gesture which demonstrates their support for the SWAG Awards is also to help the association in the organisation of a fantastic event.
She said her outfit relationship with the Sports media is to play a role in promoting the transformation and growth of sports in the country through constant and comprehensive reportage on various disciplines of sports, business, background issues and the human interest aspects.
Ackah Anthony, President of SWAG commended MTN for the
support, which he said will go a long way towards organising a memorable event.He said they are course to organise an event that will last forever in the minds of all, with the support of MTN, who for are sponsoring for the third-time running.
Over 25 sports men and women drawn from several sporting disciplines will on the Night receive trophies, medals and certificates among others for their efforts in the year 2011.
The topmost award, Sports Personality of the Year Award has Andre Dede Ayew, Ajara Mohammed and Harrison Afful as the competitors, with Andre Ayew, Emmanuel Agyeman Badu and Harrison Afful also vying for the Footballer of the Year award.
The Awards Gala Night will be graced by Mr Gianni Merlo, President of the Association of International Press for Sports (AIPS), Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Clement Kofi Humado and other high profile sports personalities and dignitaries.
