A delegation from the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has visited the family of the late music legend Ebo Taylor in Saltpond.
The visit was to express the music community’s deep respect and condolences following his passing on February 9.
The MUSIGA delegation, led by President Bessa Simons, sympathised with the family and initiated discussions towards arrangements for a fitting burial. The delegation included General Secretary S.K. Agyemang, Director of Special Projects and Communications Ahuma Bosco Ocansey, and a member, Lady PJ.
The family was represented by Ebo Taylor’s widow, Elina Taylor, alongside his sons Kweku Taylor, Henry Taylor, and Deroy Ekow Taylor. Also present were his cousin Angela Davis and nephews William Wallace Deheer, Kow Moore, and Joseph David Nyarko.
The one-week observation for the late musician is scheduled for March 14 in Saltpond, his hometown and the place where he passed away at the local hospital. The ceremony forms an important part of traditional Ghanaian funeral rites, particularly among Akan-speaking communities.
Ebo Taylor was widely regarded as a pioneer of highlife and Afrobeat. He was a contemporary of Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti, with whom he worked and helped shape the early foundations of the genre.
He is also considered one of Africa’s most sampled musicians, with international stars such as Usher sampling his song “Heaven” for the hit track “She Don’t Know” featuring Ludacris. Other artistes who have sampled his work include Black Eyed Peas, Kelly Rowland, and Rapsody.
