The flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Akufo-Addo has refuted allegations by the Enquirer newspaper that he did not re-declare his asset before leaving office in 2007 as Attorney General and Justice Minister.
The paper claims Nana Addo and other former ministers including Jake Obetsebi Lamptey are among the tall list of former government officials who have not declared their assets. It claimed only 27 of the former ministers, excluding Nana Addo re-declared their assets upon leaving office.
Speaking on Citi FM, Samuel Abu Jinapor, an aide to Nana Addo said the Enquirer report is false and does not have any basis.
“So far as we are concerned, Nana Akufo-Addo did declare his assets when he was appointed as minister of Justice and Attorney General and upon leaving office in 2007, Nana Akufo-Addo indeed filled and submitted the Redeclaration Asset Form to the Auditor-General's department and so Nana Addo has since re-declared his assets and therefore this report by the Enquirer is a false publication and does not have a basis”.
He added that if the Enquirer newspaper had done a more thorough job, they would have found the records at the appropriate authorities to convince themselves that Nana Addo re-declared his assets before leaving office.
He questioned the motivation behind the Enquirer's publication adding “I don’t know the motivation behind this kind of publication."
Article 286(1) of the 1992 Constitution states that A person who holds a public office mentioned in clause (5) of this article shall submit to the Auditor-General a written declaration of all property or assets owned by, or liabilities owed by him whether directly or indirectly.
