The presidential candidate of the ruling New Patriotic Party has expressed regret at what he said were the repeated intimidation of agents of the party at some polling stations in the Volta Region.
Nana Addo who had been speaking to Accra-based Peace FM said the alleged hounding, if true, only undermined the country's fledgling democracy.
Nana Addo said the intelligence of the NPP had picked reports that several agents of the party were being heckled at various polling stations, especially in the northern part of the Volta Region.
He denied reports of planned vote rigging by the NPP at Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region.
Media reports have alleged a group of people allegedly keeping several ballot boxes in the Queens Hotel at Ashaiman.
Some residents of the town, believed to be supporters of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), linked the NPP to the ballot boxes.
The NPP presidential candidate who had been speaking some 15 minutes to the close of balloting at 5:00 pm, urged agents of the party to be vigilant during counting and collation.
He served notice the party would take action at the appropriate time when it gathers all the facts on the skirmishes.
Nana Addo who contests the presidency with three-time contender, Prof. John Evans Atta Mills, urged Ghanaians to regard the election as a mere expression of opinion but stated that "Ghanaians must know the election is an important assignment."
