The Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings campaign team has officially written to the National Executive of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) over alleged intimidation and bribery of party delegates by their opponent – President Mills campaign team.
According to them, the acts of intimidation, verbal assaults, threats and splashing of money are appalling tactics adopted by the Mills campaign team which are very alien to the NDC.
Nana Konadu’s campaign team have accused members of the Get Atta Mills Endorsed (GAME) campaign team of inducing party delegates with an amount of GH¢ 4,000 and a motorbike each to declare their support for President Mills.
They argue that, the move by GAME is so pervasive that Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings is having problems getting endorsements for her candidature from delegates to complete her nomination forms.
Speaking on Asempa FM Ekosii Sen programme Friday, Campaign Coordinator for Mrs. Rawlings, Namburr Berrick who confirmed their move said the letter was addressed to the General Secretary of the party Johnson Aseidu Nketiah.
He added that the campaign team decided to petition the party to prove to the delegates who defied the threats and endorsed the forms for Mrs. Rawlings that they are doing something about the issue.
He stressed that it is very important for the party to create a level playing field for all contestants in the round up to the party’s presidential primaries on July 8 in Sunyani.
“If they didn’t want any party member to participate, then they shouldn’t have at all opened nomination but when you open nomination and people are going to contest; you don’t have to go round and start intimidating and insulting them (for backing one candidate). The delegates have their mind to choose what they want ;it is not for us to dictate to them the person we want” he lamented.
The Campaign Coordinator noted that they have people in the party who are willing to endorse the forms for Mrs. Rawlings but they believe it will be a great advantage to get delegates to endorse the forms.
Namburr Berrick was confident that they would get the necessary endorsement and beat the deadline for submission of the forms. “We have virtually finished, we have finished with Greater Accra, Brong Ahafo and Central Region”.
Namburr Berrick called on all party delegates to be bold and vote according to the will of their constituents.
Meanwhile, Johnson Aseidu Nketiah NDC General Secretary stated emphatically that the party cannot do anything about the issues since the Nana Konadu campaign team did not provide any substantial evidence to back their claims.
