The National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO) has responded to the demands of the members of the National Food Suppliers Association.
The Company acknowledged its indebtedness to the suppliers and sympathised with their plight.
In a press statement released on Thursday, July 6, the Company said, “An Emergency Board Meeting has been scheduled on the situation and the outcome, including a possible road map for resolution, will be shared thereafter.”
“The Board and Management of NAFCO is committed to working with all key stakeholders including the Ministries of Education and Finance for the prompt resolution of the issues,” the release stated.

NAFCO's response comes after members of the National Food Suppliers Association picketed at the premises to demand an amount of GH¢270 million owed to them by government.
The suppliers, who travelled from all regions across the country, say that since 2021, government has not paid them for food that they supplied to Senior High Schools across the country.
Since Tuesday, July 4, the suppliers have been spending their nights at the premises of the Buffer Stock Company, insisting that they will not leave until the government pays them their monies in full.
According to the suppliers, they are unable to return to their places of abode because creditors are pursuing them for their monies.
However, on the evening of Thursday, July 6, the Minister of Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong, visited the workers and made a commitment to work with the Ministry of Finance to have their two-year arrears reimbursed.
The Minister further assured that he would revert with a payment date on Friday afternoon.
Despite his assurances, the members of the Association maintained that they would continue with their picketing because promises were not enough.
