The Mobile Number Portability (MNP) exercise officially begins on Thursday but the Deputy Communications Manager of the National Communications Authority (NCA), Mawuko Zomelo has observed that the Publicity of NDC’s National Congress has overshadowed the launch.
He acknowledged that media hype on the programme since a year now has not made the needed impact on Ghanaians but this notwithstanding, his outfit has published adverts of Thursday’s official launch in major newspapers.
He made his assertions in an interview with Adom News after reports indicated that a section of Ghanaians living in the hinterlands had no idea about the programme.
However, Mr. Zomelo said a plan ‘B’ has been adopted by his outfit to intensify education.
He has told Adom News that they have resorted to town and regional fora as well as adverts in both English and local languages to achieve their target after a media conference next week.
“We are also counting on the media to help us campaign because we are all in this together” he said.
MNP is a process that allows mobile subscribers to change their networks without changing their numbers and maintains their favourite mobile number including the code.
The process was made possible after Parliament adopted the report of the Committee on Subsidiary Legislation on the Mobile Number Portability (MNP) Regulations 2011, Legislative Instrument (LI) 1994, and by that action, MNP received the legal backing to begin on Thursday June 30, 2011.
