The Communications Director of opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akomea says the 2012 Manifesto of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) is a rehash of the litany of failed promises it made to Ghanaians in the run-up to 2008 elections. According to him, Ghanaians are virtually “living in the Stone Age” under what he says is the failed Better Ghana Agenda being professed by the NDC. Nana Akomea was commenting on the ruling party’s manifesto on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday. The NDC launched its manifesto dubbed: Enhancing a Better Ghana at Ho in the Volta region promising a robust economy, a transparent and accountable governance if retained in power in the upcoming December general elections. On education which has become a topical issue in the electioneering campaign,the NDC is promising to improve access by constructing 200 new Senior High Schools - a move the NPP claim was necessitated by its flagship free SHS policy. Speaking on Ekosii Sen, Nana Akomea said NDC's manifesto is not targeted at solving the enormous hardships it has inflicted on Ghanaians. He said there is no policy in the NDC manifesto that targets the issue of graduate unemployment, the dwindling economy, high cost of living in the country amongst others; yet the NDC claims to be a people centered government. Nana Akomea contended that the ruling party cannot claim to advance the Better Ghana when in fact Ghanaians are living in a "bitter Ghana". The NPP Director of Communication cited the one-time premium payment for the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), job creation, eradication of perennial water crisis, gas shortages,load shedding, among others as some of the failed promises of the NDC. He further stated that the NDC manifesto is full of rhetorics that is meant to win votes and urged the electorate to vote for a decisive leader like Nana Akufo-Addo, who he says is tried and tested to advance to the cause of Ghana. Nana Akomea stated that Ghana under an Akufo-Addo presidency will be a country worth living in, and added that the NDC government has failed Ghanaians and does not deserve another term. However, in a rebuttal, a communication team member of the NDC, Kakra Essamuah vehemently disagreed with Akomea’s assertions, adding that a social democratic party like the NDC has the well-being of Ghanaians at heart and thus will ensure massive improvement in all sectors of the economy should they be retained. Kakra Essamuah added that the Mahama/Amissah Arthur will ensure a full implementation of the Free Compulsory Basic Education (FCUBE) in 2016 if retained in power.
