The National Democratic Congress (NDC), says the ruling New Patriotic Party has deliberately twisted facts about the economy to deceive the masses.
The party says the NPP has fed the public facts it has deliberately skewed about the state of Ghanaian economy with the view to painting the NDC black and thereby deceive the public into renewing its mandate.
Fiifi Kwetey, Propaganda Secretary of the party who addressed a press conference on Wednesday to ‘set the records straight’ about facts he said the NPP has willfully manipulated, said there cannot be any truth in the NPP’s slogan of moving the nation forward.
At best, he said the country is being moved foward into deeper crisis than Ghanaians can afford.
Citing several authorities to back his claims, he said it cannot be true that the nation has made any good progress “When UNICEF and WHO have ranked Ghana the second dirtiest country in the whole of West Africa” and “When Kwame Pianim, an economic/financial guru and former NPP presidential aspirant recently underscored the fragility of the economy today when he declared that Ghana's economy badly needed about $130 million injection to stay healthy else inflation would go up, which will greatly affect the poor?”
Flanked by other known figures in the NDC, including former Minister and MP for Ningo Prampram, Hon. E.T. Mensah, Mr. Ametor Kwame and several others, Fiifi Kwetey said while the NPP government boldly claims living conditions have improved since the party took charge of national administration in 2001, the contrary rather is the truth of the situation.
He said at any rate, an improved economic performance must reflect in improved living standards of the people, but what is real is that the people can hardly afford any comfort under present conditions created by the NPP.
