The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said that it remained committed to strengthening the capacity of farmers and providing the requisite resources to enable the country realize the full potential of Ghanaian farmers and fishermen.
According to a release issued by George Lawson, Deputy General Secretary (Operations) on the commemoration of National Farmers’ Day today, the NDC administration will continue to collaborate with farmers and fishermen to improve agricultural production, ensure food security and stable income for Ghanaian farmers and fishermen towards the realization of the ‘Better Ghana Agenda’ being advanced under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama.
“The introduction of mechanized farming, construction and rehabilitation of irrigation facilities, the establishment of the Buffer Stock Company, and support to subsidize premix fuel, outboard motors and technical backstopping to artisanal fishermen are but a few of interventions that have moved the country’s agriculture sector unto a positive level within the four years of the NDC government,” the statement said.
The NDC commended farmers for contributing to the growth of agricultural production, the mainstay of the country’s economy. “The NDC commends your efforts, and fully appreciates your role even in the face of global and national challenges posed to agriculture.
“We are of the view that your sacrifices and commitment to the course of the country’s vision of improving the lives of the citizenry deserves tonnes of gratitude, culminating in the institution of Farmers’ Day’ by former President Flight Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings founder of the NDC leader of the then Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC), every year to honour your invaluable contribution to the country”.
