The National Democratic Congress (NDC) will continue and complete all development projects started by previous governments since such projects are meant to improve the lots of all Ghanaians.“That is why the government considers it ridiculous for a section of the society to point out that the President had been visiting and inaugurating projects started by other administrations,” he added.The Volta Regional Minister, Mr Joseph Z. Amenowode, said this at the Senior Citizens Day feast held in Ho as part of activities marking the Republic Day. “After all, the projects are being undertaken with funds from the Ghanaian coffers and are meant to benefit Ghanaians so there is no sense in abandoning them simply because it was started by some other government”, Mr Amenowode said. He said it would not do Ghanaians any good if after huge funds spent on those projects, it was left uncompleted, only to start the same projects again at a higher cost because the people really needed it.The Volta Regional Minister announced that so far, 240 projects had been completed within three months and many others during their two years stay in office. Mr Amenowode also announced that an amount of GH¢ 750million and $20 million had been allocated for the commencement of the University of Allied Sciences in the Volta Region next academic year.He said over 800 acres of land had been released by the Kokroko Family at Sokode for the construction of the campus. Additionally, he said, accommodation had been made available for the core staff and students in Ho.He commended the senior citizens for their role in national development, saying “their past contribution to bring the country to where it is now cannot be discounted”.Earlier, Mr Amenowode had presented eight maxi bags of rice and five cartons of cooking oil worth GH¢1, 100 to the cured lepers in Ho on behalf of President John Evans Atta Mills.He said the food items had been procured from the proceeds of the National Prayer and Fasting Church service held in Ho to precede the Independence Day celebration.Source: Daily Graphic/Ghana
