Two disgruntled Youth Activists of the ruling National Democratic Congress [NDC] have accused the party and the government of neglecting the youth. The two, Richard Suleman, who is the General Secretary of the Omega Squad and the National Youth Coalition, and Moses Akorli, a Youth Activist of the NDC made the comments on Multi TV’s political talk show Minority Caucus.
According to Mr. Suleman, the National Executives of the ruling NDC have absolutely deserted the youth wing of the party since they came into power and have refused to listen to them or involve them in any activity in the party – a move he said defeats the “congress” nature of the party.
“The NDC say they don’t know any youth group, they now have a specific youth group to identify [with], but they have forgotten that they are running a congress, and the word congress means bringing this group with their leader together. President Mills and his leader, the founder and his leaders, the Ahwois and their leader, etc, coming together to form the party and that is NDC. Today they are forming everyone into a box called party structure which does not even exist” he said.
According to him, the current government is not leading the country in the right direction indicating that “the leaders of the day are trying to elevate Ghana to the skies without Ghanaians.”
Mr. Suleman who also described himself as a Political Sniper for the NDC accused persons who work closely with the President of hiding the reality from him.
“Those around the President do not communicate [the] reality to the President. They take the complaints of the youth and keep it in ministerial drawers” he alleged.
The National Youth Coalition’s General Secretary thus called on the leadership of the NDC “to stop tarnishing the image of the President, wake up from [their] slumber, be more nationalistic, and stop enjoying diplomacy.”
Moses Akorli reiterated government’s neglect of the youth who he said helped the NDC regain power after 8 years in opposition. He thus called on government to get the youth involved in its activities and also draw out strategic policies that will help develop the youth of Ghana.
