The Bolgatanga Constituency Youth Wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has appealed to the President and the National Executive of the NDC Government to consider appointing members and some functionaries of the party in the Bolgatanga Constituency to Ministerial and Ambassadorial positions in future.
This was contained in a statement issued at the weekend in Bolgatanga and signed by the Chairman of the Youth Wing in the Constituency, Mr. Dinko Clement Musah.
The Youth Wing expressed disappointment that not single member of the NDC in the Bolgatanga Constituency, including the Member of Parliament in the Bolgatanga Constituency, Mr. Emmanuel Akolbire Opam Brown was appointed to serve in any capacity in the administration.
The statement indicated that members of the constituency had contributed enormously through votes
and manpower that led to the party’s victory in 2008 elections. It stated that during the first round of the presidential election, the Bolgatanga Constituency contributed 30,941 representing 62.3 per cent of the total number of valid votes cast by the competing political parties.
“The votes that the NDC had in Bolgatanga was the highest in any constituency in the Upper East Region in the 2008 Presidential election, the fourth in all the constituencies in Northern Ghana and one of the highest in the country”, the statement emphasized.
It noted that despite the impressive performance by the Bolgatanga constituency in the first round of the election, it did not rest on its oars but increased the votes to 35,746 in the Presidential run-off as against 15,498 representing 69.8 per cent of the total valid votes cast by the political parties.
The statement stated that it should be recalled that in 2000 and 2004 elections, the NDC lost the Parliamentary seat of the Constituency to the People’s National Convention (PNC) and said members of the party in the constituency rallied strongly behind the campaign team to recapture the seat for the party in 2008 election.
It stressed that the Constituency therefore expected
a pat on its back from the President and the National Executives of the party for its hard work towards the victory of the party and appealed to the President to consider appointing members of the Party in the Constituency to Ministerial and Ambassadorial positions in future.
“We believe that the Bolgatanga Constituency NDC has capable and credible members who have shown exemplary commitment and loyalty to the cause of the NDC during opposition and in government. These members have the qualities and competence to occupy Ministerial and Ambassadorial positions and excel if given the nod”, the statement stressed.
