Dr. Kwesi Nduom says his poor showing in the presidential elections in 2008 was the worst failure in his life.
Dr Nduom obtained less than one percent in the elections but he says he is not prepared to give up on his ambition of leading the country someday.
“First of all I lost the 2008 election in a manner that I did not anticipate; and indeed I call that a very, very bad failure. And I recognize and accept that I failed in that important exercise much, much more than I have ever failed at anything in my life,” he told Joy News.
He is therefore devising new strategies to win more votes if he gets the opportunity to run for the presidency again.
As a first step, Dr. Nduom sent a team around the country to test his popularity among the electorate.
“When I started entertaining going back and doing this all over again, as a professional, the only thing that I could do and that I can do is not just to go and jump into it without looking and without examining what went wrong,” he said.
According to Dr Nduom, his viability for presidency has been confirmed by many people.
“Many people who come to have private discussions with me acknowledge the fact that the two political parties – NDC and NPP – made promise to them, promises that they have not kept and that the nation has not moved ahead as they would have wished and sol there is room for an alternative,” he stated.
Asked if he can ever be president on the ticket of a party which has performed abysmally in the last election, Dr Nduom said that is “a perception” prevalent in the Fourth Republic which may not be the reality on the ground.
The presidential hopeful has a track record as a successful businessman. He would however not back down on his presidential ambition as he considers that as one medium through which he can influence society.
