The New Juabeng traditional council has is kicking against a decision by the New Juabeng Municipal Assembly to lease out the only Community Centre in the municipality to retail giant, Melcom.
The traditional council insists it was not made aware of the agreement to lease the Community Centre to Melcom for 40 years.
Acting Omahene for the are Bafuour Nyantakyi Tutu Boateng and some elders of the area have therefore gone ahead to halt construction works on the site.

Speaking to the media, Bafuor Nyantakyi Tutu Boateng said "the Municipal Assembly ought to respect the traditional authorities because we have a stake in the affairs of the running of the area.They didn't tell us about anything concerning Private Public Partnership with Melcom so we have gone ahead to stop them from working.
“It is our land they are working on so they should have agreed with us before going ahead. The process to lease the place to melcom hasn't been open at all because weren't aware", he said.

In a response, the Municipal Chief Executive, Dr. Kwaku Owusu Acheampong explained that the decision was taken during a Municipal Assembly meeting which was had representatives from the Traditional Council.
According to him they are going to factor in the concerns raised by the chiefs.
"We have listened to their concerns and we have all agreed that they stop the work until we agree on how to go about it". Dr.Acheampong explained.
