The Chief Justice, Mrs Georgina Theodora Wood, swore in the new Speaker of Parliament, Mr Edward Kobby Doe Adjaho during which he swore the oath of office and secrecy.
Mr Adjaho in his acceptance speech thanked his constituents and the NDC for doing him the honor.
He said he would draw the experiences from the two former speakers, Mrs Joyce Banford Addo and Mr Ebenezer Sakyi Hughes to enable him discharge his duties effectively and efficiently.
"It has been 20 years for me in this parliament which staff have lend me a great deal of support," he said and pledged to bring his experience to bear on his new role.
" Let us be focused on conducting our business of this House remembering that we are not here on our own".
Mr Adjaho urged members to renew their sense of professionalism and nationalism in carrying out their responsibility and called for support and cooperation.
He assured the minority leader, Mr Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, that in the performance of his duties he would not be capricious and whimsical which generated laughter from members of the House.
He announced his vacation of Akatsi South constituency seat where he was elected MP in this year's elections.
The Speaker proceeded to swear in the new Members of Parliament after which the MPs congratulated each other.
For the position of First Deputy Speaker, Mr Ebow Barton-Odro, the MP for Cape Coast North and immediate past Deputy Attorney-General was elected whiles Mr Joe Ghartey, the MP for Essekado-Ketan, was given the nod as the Second Deputy Speaker.
