The chiefs and people of the Ntotroso Traditional Area have held a colorful durbar to climax the celebration of their biennial Apomasu Festival at Ntoroso in the Asutifi District in the Brong-Ahafo Region.
The theme for the one-week festival observed in veneration of Apomasu, a local deity, was, "Promoting and sustaining quality health through chieftaincy".
Addressing the people, the Minister of Transport, Alhaji Colins Dauda, who represented Vice President John Dramani Mahama, reminded the people to register during the biometric registration exercise from March 24, 2012, so that they could exercise their franchise in the general election.
He told them that the exercise was new and that the old voters’ identity cards would not be valid.
He also warned them against the registration of minors, since that would constitute a breach of the electoral law.
Alhaji Dauda, who is the Member of Parliament for Asutifi South, entreated the chiefs to bury their tribal sentiments and live in harmony with one another, since peace is needed for development.
On behalf of the Vice-President, he presented GH¢5,OOO in support of the festival.
The Bantamahene, Baffour Owusu Asare, who represented the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, commended the people for their peaceful co-existence and gave an assurance that Asante traditional council would support them in their development endeavours.
Earlier in a welcoming address, the Ntotrosohene, Barima Twereku Ampem III, had called for a national policy on proper waste management and control which should be backed by legislation.
