Many parts of Ghana’s regional capital, Accra, as well as other urban areas far and wide, have been hit with a power outage, known locally as dumsor.
Apart from parts of the Greater Accra Region, the Saturday evening power cut has also been recorded in the Central Region, Northern Region, Eastern Region, Upper East Region, Upper West Region, Volta Region and Oti Region.
Ghanaians across the country have taken to social media to complain about the situation.
@NAkufoAddo Election year and you think is the best time for Dumsor...? Keep on! U will hear from us in December!

In many parts of the capital, the unannounced power cut happened around 9 p.m. local time.

It is not yet clear what may have triggered this extensive power cut, however, some reports indicate that operational challenges being encountered by the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) are to blame.
