Teachers of all the four public schools at Nkwantanang in the Kwaebibirem District have resolved to embark on a sit down strike from Monday if the local traditional authorities fail to address a spiritual concern of a female teacher of the local Roman Catholic Primary School.The teachers of the Roman Catholic, Islamic, Methodist and Presbyterian schools took the decision in a resolution at Nkwantanang on Friday.They said they were registering their protest at one Ms Abena Hannah, a resident of the town, who was seen sweeping a classroom and spending sometime around the table of Ms Akorli Eunice Venunye, the class teacher at about 1930 hours last Wednesday.The two women had a quarrel a few months ago and the teachers believed the actions of Hannah could have spiritual connotations.The teachers asked the traditional leaders to take appropriate customary steps to resolve the issue by Monday or they would embark on a sit down strike.That would be followed by a demonstration on Friday October 28, after the Police and the educational authorities had been notified.The resolution said the teachers’ action had become necessary because of problems they were facing in the town including threats, assault, defecating in classrooms and said they were looking forward to hearing favourably from the traditional authorities.The resolution, which was copied to the District Educational Directorate at Kade, was received by the Krontihene, Baffour Owusu Aduomi.
