The Nneka Youth Foundation marked this year's International Day of the Girl Child with an impactful event at the Ningo Prampram SDA Basic School in the Greater Accra Region, under the theme “Girls' Vision for the Future.”
The celebration brought together students from Basic 6 to Junior High School (JHS) 3, aiming to inspire them to pursue their dreams, embrace technology, and prioritize their mental well-being.
Highlighting Inspirational Ghanaian Women
One of the key elements of the event was a series of motivational talks focused on celebrating remarkable Ghanaian women who have left indelible marks on history.
These stories served as a beacon of hope, encouraging the young girls to envision a future where they, too, can make a significant impact.
The speakers highlighted the importance of determination, hard work, and resilience, urging the students to see these qualities in themselves as they shape their futures.
Mental Health Discussions: Breaking the Silence
Mental health concerns were also a major focus of the event. An open discussion provided a safe space for the girls to express their thoughts and fears, with facilitators offering coping strategies for stress and anxiety. This conversation was vital in addressing a topic often overlooked in schools, giving the students tools to manage the pressures they face academically and personally.
Bridging the Tech Gap: Coding and Programming for the Future
In a bid to close the gender gap in technology, the Nneka Youth Foundation introduced the students to the basics of programming and coding. The initiative aimed to empower the girls with tech skills, providing them with early exposure to fields traditionally dominated by men. This practical experience opened up new possibilities for their career paths, encouraging them to see themselves as capable of thriving in the digital world.
Empowering Words from the District Girl Child Officer
The District Girl Child Officer, who attended the event, urged the participants to take the lessons seriously and apply them as guiding principles in their lives. She emphasized that the knowledge and skills acquired would not only help them in their academic journeys but also shape their character and future aspirations.
A Grateful Acknowledgment
The Nneka Youth Foundation expressed profound gratitude to the Ningo Prampram District Education Service, the SDA Basic School, and all participants who contributed to the success of the event. Their collective efforts helped create a nurturing environment where the girls could explore their potential and gain new perspectives on what they could achieve.
A Call to Action: Empowering the Next Generation
As the event concluded, the message was clear: empowering girls today means securing a brighter future for everyone. The foundation called on the community to continue supporting initiatives that inspire and uplift young girls, ensuring they have the confidence and tools to chase their dreams.
