Quintessential Ghanaian musician, Okyeame Kwame, has shared his disappointment with entertainment critics for their remarks on the BBC Hiplife Rewind Documentary.
During an interview with Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz, the 'Rap Dacta' explained that no one should have a say on the BBC Hiplife documentary, because they decided to sit down and let someone from somewhere else come and produce the documentary.
“If someone else who has their interest, and has proven over and over again that they are best friends with us, is doing something they want to do, how dare we criticize the way they should have done it.”
Okyeame Kwame also said he didn’t have a problem with the documentary and didn’t mind that his name wasn’t mentioned in it, saying nothing stops him from shooting a Hiplife documentary from his perspective.
“I have no qualms with someone organizing a documentary and not mentioning me, my legacy is not attached to what BBC is doing, and my legacy is attached to the way I behave today.
“I mean what stops me from taking my 4G iPhone and getting a 200-dollar cordless mic, calling all my friends and shooting a story, and giving it to my editor to edit it in my favour.”
The ‘Woso’ rapper also gave some advice to Ghanaians saying they should stop expecting others to come to Ghana to tell the Ghanaian story, rather they should tell their own story.
“We need to stop expecting things from other people, it's the same way African mentality, that’s why we have Ghanaian stories being told from the Hollywood perspective,” he said.
