The chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constitutional Committee, Nii Ayikoi Otoo, has criticized the party for sidelining him and his committee in absolute violation of the party's constitution.
The former Attorney-General says successsive flagbearers of the party have sidestepped constitutionally mandated structures and impose their own favoured committees.
Speaking on a news analysis programme, Newsfile on Joy FM and Multi TV, Saturday, Mr. Ayikoi Otoo condemned the way and manner his own committee was ignored in dealing with the legal issues triggered by the recent elections to elect regional and national executives for the party.
"I wonder what the chairmanship and national executive race is all about. Because the flagbearer immediately comes in with his own team and they take over and everything goes to him, including a campaign manager, campaign office, logistics office and almost all the constitutional committees of the party are completely set aside.
"I mean constitutional committee, I was nowhere near any of the what they called the 'elections legal committee', although I happen to be the chairman of the constitutional committee. Completely against our constitution.
The former Attorney General therefore admonished the national chairman of the NPP, Mr. Paul Afoko, to as a matter of urgency deal with the flagbearership position in the party, if he wants to be a chairman and leader of the NPP.
"I think he (Paul Afoko) should rather pursue that line that if he wants to be a leader and a chairman, then we need to look at the flagbearership position", Mr. Ayikoi Otoo asserted.
The newly elected national chairman of the NPP, Paul Afoko, last week, called for unity within the party.
But Mr. Ayikoi Otoo says the national executives of the party must rather focus on tackling the problem with fanatics in the party, who form various camps to support flagbearer aspirants.
"He talks about unity; very good. But at the end of the day, I do not believe that it is the leaders that create the problems, it is the supporters; those people, who shout 'no Nana, no vote', it is those people, who say that if you talk about Nana or say anything about Allan, we are going to fight".
