The Police in Tamale say they will treat as speculation allegations that supporters of the New Patriotic Party were behind a shooting incident that led to nine NPP supporters sustaining varying degrees of injuries.
A presidential staffer James Agyenim Boateng claimed to have intelligence information that suggested NPP supporters opened fire on their own people on the night of 10 April, 2014, two days to the NPP National Delegates Conference which was also held in Tamale.
Speaking on Peace FM's Kokrokoo programme, Agyenim Boateng stated emphatically that he had information it was jubilant NPP supporters who were behind the shooting incident.
"I have reliable information [that the NPP supporters fired on their own people].
"It is even emerging the suspects were supporters of a former NPP chairman," he said, challenging the host to cross-check with the police and the Tamale regional security committee.
In an interview with Myjoyonline.com, the Tamale Police PRO ASP Ebenezer Tetteh said he does not want to be drawn into such speculations.
He said until a formal complaint is given to the police, he will treat such information as allegation or speculations.
According to him, no arrests have yet been made even though they have important leads they are following up on.
