The Asante-Akim South Constituency Women Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mrs Comfort Asamoah, has appealed for police protection for alleged threats on her life.
She says she is now living under constant fear and is afraid for her safety.
She accused the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Mrs Gifty Ohene-Konadu of being behind this, but the MP has profusely denied the accusation and challenged her to make a formal report to the police.
Addressing a news conference at Nkwanta near Juaso, Mrs Asamoah claimed she had twice been brutally assaulted by some members of her own party at the instance of the MP.
Earlier in September last year, she was arrested and detained for more than four hours by the police on the orders of the MP without justifiable cause.
Mrs Ohene-Konadu dismissed the accusations as mischievous.
She said it represented nothing but a shameful plot by her detractors to frustrate her 2012 re-election bid which she said is certainly bound to fail.
The MP argued that if indeed Mrs Asamoah's life is being threatened as she wants people to believe, the right and legitimate thing to do is to go to the police and not to run to the media with unfounded allegations just to attack her image and integrity.
She advised her to focus on the mandate of helping to mobilize more women for the NPP in the area to strengthen the party's support base to recapture political power in 2012.
