Displaying prowess and great sportsmanship, Notre Dame Girls' SHS has secured a slot in the 2021 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) National Championship to take place in October.
Following the footprint of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Girls' SHS, the contestants of Notre Dame Girls’ SHS subdued its rivals by earning 31 points at the end of the contest.
Twene Amanfo SHTS, Methodist SHTS, Berekum and OLP Girls' SHS were no match as they failed to overturn the dominating spirit of Notre Dame Girls’ in all four rounds.
It was a great day for the contestants and the supporters of Notre Dame Girls' SHS.
Their excitement could not be hidden as they sang to celebrate their victory during an interview with JoyNews.
Speaking with Manuel Koranteng, the contestants expressed gratitude to God Almighty, stating that their success is just by grace.
“We feel so amazing. I mean competing with boys and being able to come this far, it has been by grace. We feel so amazing, we feel so blessed.”
In addition, they noted that getting their questions wrongly answered did not perturb the team because they had the opportunity to make a comeback to turn tides in their favour.
“No, we prepared ourselves in such a way that even if we get a story wrong, there is still room for improvement. I mean there are more questions we can answer and get correct so even if we get one question wrong, it doesn't mean it is the end of us. There is more room for success," they said.
Acknowledging that qualifying to the national contest with 31 points is not the desired goal, the team has pledged to work harder in order to subdue their rivals particularly St James Seminary in the next stage of the competition.
“No more room for mistakes. We are going to level them. They've been boasting, even in our trial contests, they've been winning. Still, there is hope so we are coming back,” they emphasized.
