Three formidable schools; Opoku Ware, Prempeh College and Kumasi Sec. Tech., will face off to determine who lords over the Ashanti Region when it comes to Science and Maths.
It has been a long journey for these three contenders to prove their worth as they head to the 2021 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) slated for October.
Monday, May 31, was greeted with joy by contestants of Opoku Ware School as they finished off their rivals from Anglican, Simms and St Louis SHS.

The Akatakyie, two-time champions of the NSMQ, ended the contest with 53 points to gain the first slot in the NSMQ Ashanti Regional finale.
Far from a smooth sail, Prempeh College was met with an immense force which nearly uprooted the Amanfuor after heading to the semi-finals with 80 points.
The second contest today featured four-time champions, Prempeh College, Kumasi Sec. Tech. and Kumasi Academy.
Although contestants from Kumasi Sec. Tech. gave the Prempeh boys a run for their money, their ammunitions could not compel Prempeh College to throw in the towel.

With a 10-point margin, Prempeh College swiftly secured the second slot into the grand finale.
The losing school with the highest point in today’s contests joined Opoku Ware School and Prempeh College in the finale.
Unlike a straightforward procedure, this was handled in a tiebreaker as both Anglican SHS and Kumasi Sec. Tech. earned 32 points.

Fate appeared to be on the side of Kumasi Sec. Tech. as it beat Anglican SHS to secure the last slot.
For many supporters, they expect the well vexed Prempeh College to teach its baby brother, Opoku Ware School, a lesson it will not forget. The tides, according to others, may change to favour the underdogs, Kumasi Sec. Tech.
