The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has elected a new president Hamza Suhini of the University of Ghana.
This follows an emergency congress to pass a vote of no confidence on the sitting president, Anthony Abotsi Afriyie.
The congress said Mr Afriyie was removed for taking decisions unilaterally contrary to the constitution of NUGS which states in Article 18 Section (a) that congress shall be the highest legislative and decision making organ.
Anthony Abotsi Afriyie, the congress claimed, suspended two of the Union’s executives, the General Secretary Patrick Adonoo and International Relations Secretary, Benedicta Lasi without consulting congress.
Hamza Suhini assumes presidency of a union which has been in the news for all the wrong reasons in recent times.
