A Level 300 nursing student at St. Michael's Nursing and Midwifery Training College in Pramso, Doziah Boateng, says she was on the verge of giving up on a mobile lottery game when one final attempt earned her a GH¢50,000 jackpot.
“I was starting to lose hope, but I decided to try one last time, and that last try paid off big time,” she said after being announced as the latest winner of the Wotiriye Lottery Game.
Ms Boateng, a student in the Bosomtwi District of the Ashanti Region, received the cash prize during a presentation ceremony on Saturday, March 14, 2026.
The cheque was presented by the management of the lottery game, with Customer Service Representative Hafsa Maud Hamidu leading the team.
In an interview with Adom News, the nursing student said the announcement of her win came as a complete surprise because she had already forgotten about the draw.
“The announcement of my win came as a total bolt out of the blue. I wasn’t even watching the lottery results, so when my friends started calling to tell me I had won the Wotiriye lottery game, I thought it was a joke,” she explained.
According to her, she initially doubted the news until she confirmed it herself.
“When I checked their social media handle, I found my number there, and later they called me to officially inform me that I am the winner of the bonus boost of 50,000. To be honest, I thought they were scammers,” she added.
Ms Boateng expressed gratitude to the organisers after they visited her personally to present the cheque, saying the experience had reassured her about the authenticity of the game.
“I’m very excited and want to express my gratitude to the management for being trustworthy. I can vouch that this lottery game is legit… if you win, they will definitely pay out your prize,” she said.
She indicated that the money will go a long way to support her education and help her plan for future goals.
Meanwhile, Hafsa Maud Hamidu encouraged players who may have tried several times without success to remain hopeful.
“Lottery is a game of chance, so just take your chances – all you need is determination, focus, and a dash of hope; you could be the next winner,” she noted.
She revealed that Ms Boateng initially doubted she would receive the prize, prompting the management team to make a personal visit to present the cheque and reassure her.
According to the organisers, eight players have already won the guaranteed GH¢10,000 prize between January and mid-March this year. Still, Ms Boateng is the first to boost her winnings to GH¢50,000 after the final digit of her mobile number matched the Bonus Ball.
The National Lottery Authority-licensed game was introduced in Ghana in 2020, allowing players to use their own mobile phone numbers as their lottery numbers.
Participants enter the draw using their phone number, after which a computer randomly selects one number each week to win a guaranteed GH¢10,000 prize. If the last digit of the selected number matches the Bonus Ball drawn later, the prize increases to GH¢50,000.
The draw takes place every Saturday at 7 pm, with winners publicly announced. Since its introduction, organisers say more than GH¢40 million has been paid out to winners across the country.
