Benin FA boss Anjorin Moucharaf’s hopes of fighting is Ghanaian counterpart Kwesi Nynatakyi for the vacant Caf executive committee position have been dealt a severe blow because of an internal power struggle.
Nyantakyi and Moucharaf are considered the front runners but present chaos in the Benin FA’s is seriously undermining the Hayatou ally.
A rival faction within the Benin Football Federation (BFF) has elected a new president, deepening the crisis in the country’s game.
If the decision to the elect a new president is approved by Fifa, the new BFF board could withdraw Moucharaf’s candidature.
Victorien Attolou was elected on Saturday by a group that claims Anjorin Moucharafou is no longer in charge.
The crisis started last month when twelve of the 15-member executive committee resigned accusing Moucharafou of being a dictator.
Fifa sent a delegation to the country last month to sort out the stand-off.
The world governing body could not approve an agreement which led to the decision by rival group to elect Attolou as the BFF boss.
But Moucharaf insists he is still in charge of the federation claiming he has the backing of Fifa in the stand-off.
“I am unconcerned about the elections held over the weekend because I am still the man in charge of the federation,” Moucharaf told BBC Sport.
“My administration is the one in charge of the federation because Fifa came here to sort of the problem and confirmed that I should stay in office.”
The latest events will undermine Moucharafou’s hopes of winning a vacant Caf executive committee seat as elections will be held on 23 February in Sudan.
Fifa is yet to respond to the latest twist of events.
