The National Chairman of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), Mr Ladi Nylander, has invited all members of the party to accept to work hard and make the needed sacrifices to win political power in Election 2012.
He said they must remain loyal, telling them that, genuine members could not offer “conditional support.
You cannot claim to belong to the CPP and support the presidential or parliamentary candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) or the National Democratic Congress (NDC).”
Mr Nylander was addressing a press conference to highlight the party’s alternative socio-economic policies at the Prempeh Assembly Hall, in Kumasi, on Thursday, marking exactly 45 years after the overthrow of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first President and the founder of the CPP.
In attendance were more than 300 party executives and functionaries from all the constituencies in the Ashanti region.
The CPP National Chairman underlined the need for social transformation, one that would turn the country into a society that is patriotic, discipline, self reliant and pursues excellence.
He said they would bring uniform development to all the 10 regions, so that everyone in all the regions would not have cause to demand a fixed share of resources generated from their area.
A CPP Government would use the state’s purchasing power to support domestic industries to grow, create more jobs and wealth for the people.
Dr Paa Kwesi Ndoum, the party’s 2008 Presidential Candidate, criticized the country’s continued reliance on the export of raw materials and said this was unhelpful to the growth of the economy.
He when voted into power the party would subsidize agricultural inputs to boost production and returns to farmers.
Professor Badu Akosah, another leading member, said the CPP was the only party that could unite the people.
He asked members to pull together and intensify their political education campaign, to make the party more attractive to voters.
Mr Samuel Kwabena Danso, the Ashanti Regional Chairman, said indications were that Ghanaians would give their votes to the CPP in the next general elections.
He spoke against internal wrangling and said they should avoid unnecessary distractions.
