A Covid-19 survivor Maria Gwira, shared how she contracted Covid-19 in February this year.
Apart from her fear for her own life, she also spoke of the dread with which she had viewed her Mother’s coughing, thinking she had infected her.
Speaking on the AM Show, the Director of Public Affairs at the University of Health and Allied Sciences in Ho said “It was particularly worrying for me because my 83-year-old mother lives with me."
"She’s asthmatic. Actually, that whole week, she had had a really loud cough. The cough, in and of itself, was not that unusual because, like I said, she had asthma – and the air quality in Ho at this time of year is not particularly good with all the bush burning and all of that. But my first thought was, ‘O my God! I am about to kill my entire family!" she told host, Benjamin Akakpo.
Maria also mentioned how she was afraid for her sister and her sister’s children, also resident in Ho, who were brought to her house to spend the weekend and visit their grandmother.
However, her mother as well as her sister and children all tested negative.
Maria narrated that she was afraid of "what was to come in the days ahead – because as at that moment, I had not been officially told that I was asymptomatic.”
She has since tested negative for the virus after completing the mandatory two weeks of isolation and taking her prescribed medication.
